🌾 Seeds of Hope: A Community Story from Bangladesh 🌾

In rural Bangladesh, the Germplasm Traceable Community Seed Bank (GTCSB), supported by BADC, is reshaping how farmers protect their agricultural heritage. Traditionally, villages like Rajapur and Kaliganj exchanged seeds informally, but climate change and market pressures threatened this practice.
GTCSB offers a resilient solution: a living archive of native rice, lentils, vegetables, and medicinal plants, each stored with traceable records. Farmers like Fatema Begum from Pabna have contributed drought-tolerant varieties, now helping others adapt to water scarcity.
The initiative empowers women, honors traditional knowledge, and blends it with technology. QR codes, logbooks, and digital guides in Bangla make participation accessible to all. Monthly meetings foster seed exchange and shared learning.
GTCSB isn’t just about preserving crops—it’s about community, sovereignty, and sustainability. As climate challenges grow, Bangladesh’s farmers are not only preserving their legacy—they’re leading the way forward.
